About Hedingham Alpacas.jpg)
My name is Sophie and I own an ever increasing herd of alpacas, currently consisting of 16 alpacas. 6 females and 10 males all of which are Huacaya (fluffy teddy bear looking alpacas). I have owned alpacas for just over two years and they have taken over my life! They are amazing animals to own and are highly addictive. My heard is at Wretham, Norfolk but we started off at Castle Hedingham, Essex. I am lucky that my boyfriend Sam has also caught the alpaca bug and helps me on a daily basis with them and has even been in the show ring with them as well.
Shows: I started showing in 2015 but was able to participate in more shows in 2016. I have caught the showing bug and enjoy entering fleece and halter shows. The show season starts with the BAS National show in March. We have had a lot of success in the show ring, which as a small herd we are very proud to have achieved, I hope for this to continue!
2017 Show results:
BAS National halter show- 3rd Hedingham Flame Commander and 3rd Furze Park El Camino.
Eastern Alpaca Group Fleece show- 1st Appledene Butterscotch, 3rd Hedingham Flame Commander, 3rd Furze Park El Camino and 5th Furze Park Elsa (her fleece was only entered as this is Sams favourite alpaca and this is her first rosette!)
Cria (young alpaca): After not having any cria in 2016. We have had 2 cria this year one female and one male. The male was from our stud Furze Park Puno and Furze Park ELsa which is both thier first cria. I am selective with breeding and try to use studs with good genetics and characteristics which I feel will produce a cria of better quality than their parents. I also feel that it is important to breed with knowledge and purpose to continually improve upon the quality of these lovely animals.
Alpaca experineces: We are very excited to announce the start of our alpaca experiences: Saturday 4th November 2017! Please feel free to call or email to make a booking!
